The first planting of vines was started in 1999. Valiant Grapes, Frontenac were planted. Additional Frontenac, Valiant, and wild grape vines from western South Dakota have since been planted. Currently nearly 2 acres is planted to these varieties. Schadé Vineyard works closely with area producers around the state. Chokecherry and Plum trees were planted in 2001 with additions of Rhubarb and Raspberry plants.

Wine production in 2001 was over 300 cases, in 2004 wine production reached 1,800 cases. As production increases it is our goal to have our wines available at several retail outlets.

Schadé Wines

OAKWOOD RED An aromatic red wine with a zesty finish.

Excellent with red meats, hearty pastas, game birds or enjoy it by itself.

RHUBARB A wine featuring earthy tones and a distinct rhubarb taste, mellow of body and smooth of finish.

Excellent with main dishes featuring pork or poultry. Try also with lite cheeses and fish.

PLUM A wine with a lite fruity bouquet and taste.

Excellent with sharp cheeses, salads, pastas with white sauces. Also very complimentary with pork and poultry.

CHOKECHERRY A medium bodied wine with a crisp bold taste and a classic red color.

Pastas with red sauces, barbecued ribs and pork. Pot roasts, beef stews and hot dishes.

WinesRASPBERRY-APPLE A fresh fruity bouquet with a smooth lite finish.

Excellent with salads especially pasta and fruit or lite cheeses.

MEAD A wine with a subtle bouquet and a lite body with soft floral notes and a bold finish.

Suggested more as a dessert wine than as a companion to a main dish. Apple crisp, peach pies and the like. Interestingly, spicy appetizers such as little smokies and chicken wings are a surprising combination.

Tawny North America's upper Great Plains richly provides the ingredients that are blended to make this after-dinner wine. Grapes picked in the early Fall from prairie vineyards; elderberries gathered from river ravines; dark honey coaxed from South Dakota’s world famous bee colonies, make this a wine like none other.

It is recommended to refrigerate all wines after opening.
